Happy Birthday Mom

Ruth Dorothy Eyrich
the best mom in the world and forever

Today, March 7th, is my mom's 87th birthday. Her birthday this year will be different for me and for my family, as this year she is celebrating with those she has been reunited with in heaven. The past week has been a depressing one for me and I would cry at just the tiniest moment with thoughts of my mom.

I have learned a great lesson this past week. The lesson learned is that our Heavenly Father loves us and He knows our pains and sorrows. During those times, He blesses us with comfort if we will only look.

I have been reading the Old Testament and on Friday there were two chapters left in Proverbs. I read Chapter 30 and last was Chapter 31. I stopped at Chapter 31 verse 10 and could not believe what comforting words were written there. Here are the words that describe my mom:

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands...she riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens...she girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
She stretcheth out her hands to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy...her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
She maketh fine linen...strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that reverences the Lord, she shall be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates."

For those of us who call her blessed, we know these things speak truth about our mom. By her example, she taught us faith, charity, to use our talents, to learn wisdom and knowledge, to work hard, to put our time second to those who need us first, and she taught us how to stand by your spouse and love him always.

I know her works are known by the Lord, and I know without a doubt in my mind that when she left this earth the Savior said to her, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

For me, my prayer is that I can follow my mom's example and be the kind of virtuous woman she is; and one day enter into the joy of the lord and into the arms of my mom.

I love you mom.

i know this is a hard time---will always be a little bittersweet--even after 10 years, my dad's birthday this year was hard---how grateful i am for our faith that allows us to be comforted by knowing that our family is continuing to the other side.
