How I Spent the Day Thinking of Mom

Deciding what to do on my mom's birthday became an easy decision once I put much thought into it. My mom loved being by the water, walking the boardwalk, and her favorite...frozen custard on a cone. Finding the frozen custard would be almost impossible as here in Texas it is quite an unknown commodity. But I did know where to find the water, the boardwalk, and the blowing wind. Before I left, Eric walked in the door and handed me these flowers...daffodils. My mom loved to watch for the daffodils to start to bloom. They were one of her favorite flowers. In Texas, the weather doesn't get along with daffodils here; so they aren't planted. These are beautiful and the florist had just gotten them in. My sister Phyllis is going to send me photos of the beautiful daffodils that were placed on the altar of their church...a beautiful way to honor our mother.
I headed to Kehma Boardwalk this afternoon. My day was to be unrushed, just slow and simple. There were a few little things I needed to get done (like fill up the gas tank with this gas that just keeps going up and up in price). On the way, I went to Sonic tempted by their hot dogs. My mom loved a good Coney Island hot dog with mustard, ketchup and sauerkraut. Actually they had at Sonic what is called the New York hot dog, exactly like my mom liked. I wasn't too sure how the stomach would handle the sauerkraut, so I opted for the American hot dog with ketchup, mustard and sweet relish.

I arrived at Kehma, just a small place on the water,
to write in my journal and just sit and ponder.
When I got out of the car, these two ducks
were sitting in the parking lot. My time here
started off with a little chuckle.
Even as a little girl, I can remember sitting with my mom and watching the ducks in the water. Her favorite was when there was a family of ducks, mom, dad and the ducklings.

This isn't Southold, NY; but my mom and I
would love to sit on the boardwalk and watch
the ships go by.

I sat by this fountain to write in my journal and to sob. The hole in our hearts, when we lose
someone close to us, I feel are not filled until we meet on the other side and we can be with our loved ones again.
After writing in my journal, I closed my book; the tears started to flow... I just sat and listened
to the water flow from the fountain. And then I thought about the living water that flows from
the fountain of life...the living water who is our Savior Jesus Christ. And because of Him we
will have eternal life and the promise of exaltation.

As I walked away from the fountain and continued to walk on the boardwalk, I looked out at the ocean. Looking out at the horizon and the ocean, I knew that as the ocean goes on forever so does our love for a wonderful mom who continues to love us.
I walked around Kehma for a little while shopping at the little shops I once shopped at with my mom. One of our favorite shops is the Christmas shop. I had the store all to myself. When it comes to Christmas stores, my mom, sister and I have the same shopping gene. We can be in those stores forever. There were so many beautiful ornaments. My mom loved teddy bears and I found two cute teddy bear ornaments for our tree this year.

Kehma is a place where we shared our shopping, eating ice cream, laughter, and most of all our love. I am so grateful for the wonderful memories I have of sharing special moments with our mom.

As I was driving out of Kehma, I saw this lighthouse at the end of a row. It is blocked off so I couldn't go up to it. Is it real? I don't know. But, what I do know is that my mom and dad's house is filled with lighthouses. And for our family, they represent our Savior Jesus Christ as He is the Light of the World and guides us with His light so we may find our way home. Mom has been guided home, and our goal is to continue to follow His light so that we may be gathered together in heaven's home above.
