The Old Grey Mare She Ain't What She Used to Be

When you are young, say in your late teens or early twenties, we all say the same thing "I will never be old like my mother and not be able to do everything." Well, if you didn't say it, I surely did. Somehow even as you age each year, inside you feel like the person you were in your twenties. But, reality hits you as you try to do things to keep up with the younger crowd and your body just won't move as fast. Let me tell you how this was proven to me today.

Maren, Braydon and I picked up Gabi from her pre-school. We told the little ones that we were going to get some lunch and then shop at the mall. Maren told me they had double strollers you could rent. After eating pizza and "the cow" for the kids (that's Chik fil A if you didn't know), we walked looking for those strollers. After arriving at the place where the double strollers should have been and they weren't there, I finally told Maren that I didn't mind getting two strollers just so that it would be easier than chasing two three year olds through the mall. Braydon and Gabi were excited when they saw their "car" strollers (yes they make them to look like a car and they can drive). Things were going rather well until Grandma here decided there was nobody in front of us in Penney's and why not have a car race.

We revved up our engines, got Braydon and Gabi evenly at the start line; and I said "One, two, three go". Giggles galore exploded from those two little ones and of course, once wasn't enough. The request was "do it'gin". I was game and the race was on. Giggles flowed and screams were heard. And actually, we were quite entertaining for those shopping in Penney's. However, this grandma was so excited to finally see people in front of us; and they were my excuse for no more racing. There was no way I was going to tell Braydon and Gabi that I was too tired to race again.

It was fun being 54 going on 21; but after awhile, this 54 year old body was no longer going on 21, more like 70 (and I don't mean mph).

All in all, it was a fun afternoon; but after 3 hours at the mall I was ready to call it a day. Today is living proof as to why Heavenly Father blesses those who are young with children. We are grandmas when we are older so that we can SIT and read books, do puzzles, and even sit on the floor and play Legos or Dora. The Old Grey Mare She Ain't What she Used to Be, but she is becoming what she was meant to be--a Grandma!!
