The Sounds of Nature

After Hurricane Rita, we noticed that the squirrels were nowhere to be found, the chirpings of the birds were gone, and nature just seemed to disappear. It was amazing to me how long it took for these wonders of nature to come back although many of them had to find new abodes as their "homes" had been destroyed. I never really thought much about the sounds of nature until Hurricane Ike hit. How amazing it is how quickly we adjust to our surroundings and never truly appreciate what Heavenly Father has created.

This morning when I went out to get the newspaper (my daily exercise of walking up and down the driveway) the amazing sounds of all the birds chirping away as they busily made their nests and also flying through the skies appreciating all that is around them made me stop and wonder. Maybe we don't take enough time in our day to slow down enough and enjoy what Heavenly Father has given us. For me, my experience this morning listening to the chirping of the birds was like listening to a soft symphony of different sounds reminding me what a beautiful world we live in.

I also have appreciated my bottle brush tree which blooms with a strong red color which attracts hummingbirds. One day while pulling into the driveway, I told Maren to stop. There in that bottle brush tree were three hummingbirds flying around and just flapping those wings with great intensity. They really didn't do anything fantastic or mind boggling (although their wings do amaze me). We sat in the driveway for quite awhile just taking in the beauty and wonder of nature.

Whenever I hear the song of a bird or look at the blue, blue sky
Whenever I feel the rain on my face or the wind as it rushes by.
Whenever I touch a velvet rose or walk by our lilac tree
I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world, Heavenly Father created for me.

Let's stop our busy lives for just a little while. Go outside and just listen. Go outside and just pause and watch. Heavenly Father has blessed us with a wonderful symphony and stage that is more beautiful than any play or show we might pay to watch and listen to. This show is given in love and it is free. How blessed we are.
