Thursday evening I had the pleasure of attending Emma's orchestra
concert. I have to be honest in saying that I expected a lot of
screeching violins that would sound off tune. To my surprise,
the orchestra sounded great. Emma has played the bass for only
two years and she is in the top orchestra. We are so proud of
her and her musical ambitions. Next year for her second
elective she is going to learn how to play the cello, thus playing
two instruments next year. I think my nephew David and his
wife Ali have been conversing with Emma and telling her what
great things can happen when you are part of an orchestra.
(David and Ali are orchestra directors up on Long Island). The
photo is of Emma with her orchestra conductor. The light saber
is from the conductor's use as he directed the theme from
Star Wars (yes, it is Emma's light saber).

meant to ask Emma if her hair is in a bun so that
she looked like Princess Leia from Star Wars.
I tried to pan in on Emma but the closer I got
the worse the picture got. I don't know what
song they are playing here.
And here begins the playing of the theme from Star Wars.
A few more seconds of Star Wars and our master bass
player, Emma Liahona Petersen.
And, finally, the end of the theme.
I am so grateful to my parents who instilled the love of music in my heart. It truly is because of them that I play the piano and now teach in my home. I used to sing in choir, a low alto which I loved; but my thyroid no longer lets me do so (I am not going to explain my medical problems on the blog). And, now the beauty of music has been passed onto another generation. Kaylin sings beautifully in her choir, Little Maren is tackling the piano (actually I am surprised that it is not tackling football), Emma is in orchestra, show choir this summer and plays the piano, and Hayes with his voice and acting abilities I know soon will be on his way to doing some type of musical. And, there is always back seat singing in the car so fantastically sung by Gabi and Braydon.
The scriptures say, "The song of the righteous is a prayer unto me." Thank you Heavenly Father for the gift of music.
