Mother's Day at the Petersens

Mother's Day is usually a little different at the Petersen home. And it is because of my attitude towards Mother's Day that makes it a little different. You see, my belief has always been that if you want to do something special for your mom, you should do it because you love her not because someone made it a holiday. If you want to make her dinner some night, just do it. Don't wait for May. If you want to tell her you love her, call her on the phone and say, "Mom, I just called to say I love you." If you are at the store and you think, wow, my mom would really love this, see if your budget can do it and buy it for her then. You will really surprise her because she doesn't expect it.

Saturday Kyle was here and said, "So, are we doing anything for Mother's Day tomorrow?" I told him I didn't have anything planned. Being Kyle, he said "What if we cook the food and bring it over, would that be OK?" I told him if it's OK with your dad, it's fine with me. So, that's what happened. Kyle cooked steaks and chicken, potatoes, I think Marshall made the salad (I will have to verify that one) and there were even rolls and corn on the cob. Maren had made a cake at Baskin Robbins so the meal was covered completely. We had some gospel discussions, a lot of laughs about all kinds of things, and just plain enjoyed the day. Of course, we missed the rest of our family; but travel plans just didn't allow the whole family to be together.

I want you to know that I love my mom, not because yesterday was Mother's Day but because she is a fantastic mom. The kids laugh at me because I love to do laundry and I love to iron. But, my mom never grumbled about doing housework and I think it is because of that that I enjoy seeing empty laundry hampers and non-wrinkled clothing. I love to cook and bake because my mom took the time to teach me. Thanksgiving is not a problem for me because my mom took the time to teach me how to make stuffing (not the cornbread stuff), how to clean out the bird and how to stuff the bird. My mom had the patience to teach me how to sew, how to knit and crochet. And my mom (and dad) taught me the love of music. My mom has always had a gorgeous voice and music was always playing in our house with my mom singing along. I know the things I know as a mom and wife because of a mom who took the time to teach me. And, I am not saying all of this because it is Mother's Day. Today is just an ordinary day and I like talking about my mom and the wonderful person she is.

Enjoy the pictures of our day.

My boys the cooks.

Kyle, Holli and Maren
Marshall, Shannon and Ryan
Mafia Boss Petersen (that's what we called him
when everybody saw the picture)

Braydon and Gabi were so excited to be
able to use our "Senior Citizen" tray tables.

At last, dessert. And it was yummy!!

Thanks kids for a great dinner and a great time!!!
