The Amazing Hummingbird

Align Center
While looking at the nature that has been created by our Heavenly Father, I pondered as to how
some people can believe there is no God. If any of you haven't visited Christie's blog, I invite you to see the majestic beauty that was created in Alaska. Absolutely breath taking. Isn't it amazing that from the majestic beauty in Alaska to the smallest size of a hummingbird, we can see the Lord's hand in all creations.

Yesterday everybody's schedules allowed us to celebrate Labor Day a day earlier. We wish Kim and her family could have been here with us to enjoy the day. While Kyle was slaving away at the grill, Marshall and Shannon arrived and told us that there were hummingbirds in the bottle brush tree. Between Maren and me, we were able to get some great pictures of these amazing creatures. Believe me, it is not an easy task to accomplish as those birds are faster than our moving to another place to take a picture. Once you are there, they are zooming off to another place.

I am glad that I waited until this evening to post these pictures. Some people upset me terribly today and it had really irked my soul. There was such disappointment in my heart that I figured my evening had been ruined. I took a long 45 minute walk with Hatcher; and along the way, I kept thinking of scriptures that our Savior left for us to ponder especially the one that says He is aware of even the tiniest sparrow. And then I looked at my pictures of the hummingbirds and was overwhelmed with the love our Heavenly Father has for us; and, what a beautiful way to show that love by giving us His beautiful creations.

In order to enjoy and actually see these amazing birds,
click on the pictures and they will be much easier to see.

This is a bottle brush tree. It gets the name
from the beautiful red blooms. The blooms
actually look like a bottle brush.
In this photo towards the right side,
you can see the hummingbird and its long beak
to get the nectar out of the red flowers.
The birds are attracted to these trees because
of the red color and the nectar.
Sometimes you can hear the actual hum from
their wings hitting each other at such a fast speed.

In this photo, you can see their wings.
I wish we had videotaped some of this so you
could see the amazement of their wings.
There is one sitting on a branch on the left side
and one above him with his wings zooming away.
It was so fun to watch them fly. To catch this photo
I just kept aiming and clicking and I was lucky that
it actually worked. Wonders of wonders!

Whenever I hear the song of a bird
Or look at the blue, blue sky;
Whenever I feel the rain on my face
or the wind as it rushes by;
Whenever I touch a velvet rose
or walk by a lilac tree,
I'm glad that I live in this beautiful
world Heavenly Father created for me.
