This is a beautiful cake that Maren made for my birthday. I had told her I wanted a cake with lots of flowers on it. She added the butterflies because she knows that my mom loves butterflies and now that love has been passed on to two more generations.
OK, I am still blogger illiterate and don't know how to rotate this video. Someone turned the camera when they took the video. So, you will have to turn your computer screen if you want to see this right side up. I bought birthday candles and then couldn't find them. So Gabi and Braydon helped me "blow out" the butterflies.
Unfortunately they made me share the cake
with all of them. So, I held it close to me until
they took it away to cut it. It was delicious. Ice
cream cake from Baskin-Robbins.
I have waited since June for this picture of
all eight grandchildren. Finally received it
and it will sit on top of our TV so I can see
it all the time. (If you click on the picture it
will be enlarged and you can see how much
the grandchildren have grown.

In each square of the collage frame, there is a picture of me holding each one of our children as infants; and then there are pictures of me holding each one of our grandchildren as infants. When I look at the pictures and think that Chad will be 36, Kim is 34, and Kaylin is 14 and Emma will soon be 14, I know that time is not standing still. Somehow, I need to learn how to enjoy every minute of my life. Maybe this year will be the year that I can learn and grow (spiritually not physically) and find out who it is that I am supposed to be in the eyes of my Heavenly Father.

The only thing missing for my special day was Kim's family. We are leaving soon to go see them; but it is always great for us to have all eight grandchildren together (oh, and our five children, too).
When you get older, you feel different about birthdays. It's just a day where you change the number of the year. But, children and grandchildren love the idea of being together, singing Happy Birthday, and blowing out candles. There is a part of us that has to stay young where we put ourselves on the level of a child; and we see the simple things that make them glow.
And with this birthday gift, I can see how my
life has moved at such a fast pace.

Beautiful cake! Happy late birthday! I love that picture of the grandkids. They're all so cute. And don't you mean you and my mom are 36, not Chad? I thought you and my mom never hit 40...
