"Martyrdom Quotient"

Daily quotes can remind us of what we need to fix in our lives. This calendar of mine that I mentioned in my previous blog is truly giving me many things to think about. Here is another quote that was on Tuesday's page:

"Check out your 'martyrdom quotient'. Martyrdom has been (and still is) one of those roles that is acceptable and tempting for women. No one benefits when we fall into it. When we choose to be martyrs, we shortchange everyone around us--and ourselves."

Does this sound familiar to any of you? It rings a very large bell for me. I suffer from co-dependency. I was given a book to read about being co-dependent no more and I tell you this, it was me to the very last page. Between not knowing how to say "no" and suffering from co-dependency syndrome (or martyrdom if you want to call it that), I let people run over me with a bulldozer. I am working on trying to live my own life; but it is very hard to change bad habits when you are 55 years old.

My advice to you is this: If you don't suffer from the "martyrdom quotient", don't start now. If you do suffer from it, change it while you are young.
