Our world is a nosy world, a world that wants to know all the business that is going on in everybody's life. I must admit that I have a subscription to People magazine. Some pages get read and some don't. The uplifting stories I enjoy, the "slop" I don't. Why is it that we can take the time to read the "slop", but we can't find the time to read the scriptures or a good uplifting book.?
Someone told me the other day that they heard a great line "There are three kinds of business--my business, your business, and God's business". The effect this message can have on our lives is a major one. My business is not your business, your business is not my business, and God's business is His business.
We live in a world of "telephone", you know, the game we used to play at birthday parties when we were younger; we would start off with a message and pass it on to one another and by the end of the line the message was totally out of context. The message, that "important" message that needed to be passed on became totally blown out of proportion. Does this sound familiar?
In life, we live the game of "telephone"--my business somehow becomes your business, your business becomes my business, and what about God's business?
We are so busy trying to find out everybody else's business that we don't have time for God's business. You see, eventually God's business becomes our business. He lets us know what part of His business we need to get done. Is there time in our lives for that business? What if we spent all the time we are on the phone, or texting, or e-mailing and take that time and take care of the part of God's business that pertains to our lives? Imagine how much scripture reading would get done, praying, service, speaking kindly of each other, spending important time with our family members. Our days would be filled with so many great and uplifting things.
Maybe this posting is for me, maybe I am the one that needed to listen to those "three businesses". I hope that I can spend more time with God's business and get done the important things He needs me to do.
