Sometimes Things Don't Work Out

Today we were supposed to meet Kim, Rich and
grandchildren in Salt Lake. Our plan was to go to
our Church's General Conference together this
weekend. From the picture above you can figure out
what happened to our plans. We were able to get
through here before the snow got too bad. However,
Kim and Rich left Vegas and were about 2 hours behind
us. The snowfall got too heavy and they had to turn
around and go back home. Our plans, therefore, have not
worked out.

Where are the mountains? Not here.

We had extra time on our hands so we headed
to Temple Square. This is the beautiful Salt Lake
Temple.

This building is the church's Conference Center.
We will be here tomorrow afternoon.

What is it about snow capped mountains that are
so amazing to look at?
With all that snow and cold, where else would you go?

The local people would probably think "big deal, it's
snowing". Well, we thought it was a big deal. Snow
is beautiful especially when all we seem to get in
Texas are destructive and ugly hurricanes.

You make plans, but that doesn't mean they will always work out. However, everybody is safe and that is what takes importance over any plans. I know for Rich and Kim it was a disappointing day. But, our day went like this:

Eric was dressed and ready to go at 7 AM because he never sets his watch back or forward depending on where we are. He thought it was 8 AM and he said it was time to get on the road to get ahead of the bad weather if we could. At that moment, I was a little perturbed; but seeing what became of our trip, it was good we left when we did. Yes, before 8:00 we were on the road and eating breakfast from Burger King. It was raining when we left Grand Junction in Colorado. As we got further into Utah, the snow began, phone calls and text messages were going crazy between Kim and me, and decisions had to be made. Eric and I made it through the worst, but Kim and Rich made a wise decision and turned around and went home. They hadn't even traveled where we did and the snow was starting to accumulate on the ground.

We arrived in Sandy, Utah with a lot of time on our hands. So, we headed to Salt Lake City, temple square, and of course Deseret Book. My friend G. G. Vandagriff, who is an LDS fiction writer, wrote a fantastic book called The Last Waltz (which I highly recommend especially if you love history during World War I). I bought the book and thought it would be so great to have GG sign the book. With encouragement from Eric, I called GG, told her I just got her book and would she like to sign it. She yelled into the phone, "Rondi, where are you?" To make a long story short, GG had a signing this evening in Pleasant Grove; and that's where we ended up. It was so great to see her and I wish so much that we would have had more time to spend together.

Now, after dinner at Applebee's, ice cream at Cold Stone, and a drive back to Sandy we are back here typing on our computers. It's been fun to relax and just take it easy. We just wish that Kim and her family had been here to share it all with us.

Thank goodness you got there safely! I know Kim and Rich are disappointed but I know you'll see them later.
